Civil Pour is a coffee shop and bar that specializes in craft coffee and beer. They also serve pastries and sandwiches. I came here on a day off—I pass it every day on my way to work but had never stopped in. I know they have another location near the SMU campus too. I ordered a pour over (black), Option 4, which cost $6.50 and came out to $7.04 with tax. The beans were from Viewfinder Coffee Roasters in Dallas—Ethiopian, Vodka Askari Anaerobic Natural. I have no idea what that means, but the tasting notes were mixed berry, raspberry, hazelnut, and cocoa. I could definitely smell the hazelnut and cocoa, but the raspberry was the most prominent flavor by far.

There’s a ton of seating, which makes it a great spot for small groups of 2–4. It’s easy to find a table, but the vibe is very corporate, kind of like a library lobby. Not many cozy or soft seating options, and surprisingly, not a lot of outlets for such a modern-looking space. The bathroom was cute, though, which I appreciated.

Come here if: you want to play board games or card games with a group of people and taste test new drinks!

Pricing:

  • Latte ($5)

  • Oat Milk ($1)

  • Vanilla ( .75)

  • Total = $6.75

My rating:

  • Coffee:4

  • Activity: 4

  • Music: 4 (good songs but too quiet)

  • Vibes: 2 (very corporate)

  • Overall = 3.5
